Step 1. Bring Us Your Design Ideas
The custom furniture process starts with you collecting ideas and inspiration for what you want. This could be pictures and measurements of your space if you need something specific to fit, or pictures of other furniture designs that you love. We’ll discuss aspects such as size, materials, style and budget with you to create the perfect design.
- Space and Dimension Requirements: We review your room measurements, existing furniture, and any architectural features that influence the design. Custom furniture is built to your exact millimetre specifications, ensuring a perfect fit.
- Functional Needs: We discuss how you will use the piece daily. A dining table for a family of 6 requires different considerations than an executive desk for a home office.
- Design Style Preferences: We explore your aesthetic preferences, from contemporary minimalist designs to rustic farmhouse styles, ensuring the piece complements your interior.
Step 2. Customise the size to suit your space
The custom furniture process starts with you collecting ideas and inspiration for what you want. We’ll discuss aspects such as size, materials, style and budget with you to create the perfect design.
Step 3. Select your hardwood
Timber selection directly affects your furniture appearance, durability, and character. We source Australian and international hardwood species, each with distinct grain patterns, colours, and properties.
Popular Australian hardwoods for custom furniture include:
- Tasmanian Blackwood: Golden-brown tones with distinctive grain, ideal for dining tables and sideboards
- Victorian Ash: Pale straw colour, straight grain, excellent for contemporary bedroom furniture
- Jarrah: Rich red-brown hues, extremely durable, suited for high-traffic dining and living room pieces
- Marri: Honey tones with distinctive gum veins, popular for statement dining tables

Step 4. Review Quote & Samples
Based on your requirements and design preferences, we’ll draw up a quote for the agreed-upon design. The quote is valid for 30 days, so you’ll have a month to decide on the design or make any necessary changes.
If you haven’t already seen materials in person, we can provide you with samples of different materials to help you make the final decision. Items like timber drawers or a timber desk can take on a distinctly different appearance when made from different woods.
Step 5. Design Documentation and Approval
Within 5 to 7 days, we produce detailed design drawings that include:
- Scaled Technical Drawings: Front, side, and top elevations with precise millimetre dimensions
- 3D Visualisations: Digital renders showing the piece from multiple angles in your selected timber
- Joinery Details: Construction methods, hardware specifications, and structural elements
- Material Specifications: Confirmed timber species, finish type, and any additional materials
Step 6. Expert Handcrafted Production
Once your order is in, the craftwork begins. Our team will begin the custom-made furniture process, expertly crafting every detail to your exact specifications.

Welcome it Home
The construction process for custom timber furniture can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks (sometimes longer for large, heavily customised designs like a custom bed frame or custom dining table). Once your piece is ready, we will deliver it to your door and assist you in placing it in your home.

Custom furniture typically takes 8-12 weeks (2-3 months) from initial order to delivery, though timelines can vary based on complexity and the maker’s workload. Simple office furniture (like a timber bookcase) will often take less time than a complex bedframe design. Most furniture makers will provide progress photos during production and update you on any timeline changes. Plan ahead and order 3-4 months in advance if you need furniture for a specific deadline or event.
In most cases, you’ll be required to pay a 50% deposit upfront to secure your order and begin production, with the remaining balance due before or upon delivery. Most deposits are non-refundable once production begins. Custom furniture is made specifically for you and can’t easily be sold to someone else if you cancel. The deposit covers the upfront investment in materials and time.
Minor changes may be possible early in production, but significant design changes are usually not feasible once building begins. This is why the design approval stage is so critical. Once you sign off on the final design and pay your deposit, that design is usually locked in. If you’re uncertain about any aspect, pause and resolve it before production begins.
