Custom Burl And Slab Tables
There’s only one way to describe our burl and slab tables: spectacular.
Harnessing the raw beauty of natural hardwood, our slab tables are formed from the vertical slice of a tree trunk, with their edges left to follow the natural curves and formations of the tree from which the slab was cut. Meanwhile, our burl slab tables are topped by cross-sections cut from large, rounded growths on the tree trunk.
Like every piece in Naturally Timber’s custom-made furniture range, our burl and slab tables are handcrafted in our Sydney using a select range of hardwoods chosen for their stunning beauty, workability and hardness. When crafting your burl or slab table, the outer edges can be left in their natural state for maximum effect (these are known as live edge burl slabs), or finished smooth for a sophisticated look.
What Is Burl Wood?
A burl is a growth on a tree in an area that has been affected by illness, fungi or an infestation such as insects or mould. Burls can be found on tree roots, trunks and branches, where the grain becomes twisted and interlocked in a sort of malformation.
While burls are unsightly for some, for us here at Naturally Timber, burls present a unique opportunity to craft stunning furniture pieces. Burl wood is very dense and resistant to splitting, making it ideal for applications such as dining table, while cross-sections display stunning knots and textures unseen in other forms of wood.
Our slab and burl slab tables are formed from a variety of hardwoods including camphor laurel and river red gum, and are sourced from naturally felled, plantation-grown or reclaimed species, meaning that we aren’t cutting into ancient forests to create our beautiful burl and slab tables.
